Tales of Maddie & Fletch!

Maddie risks one of her 9 lives! (March 08, 2009)
Today, whilst washing up at our kitchen sink and gazing out the window, husband Jeremy suddenly yells "Quick! Come and look at this cat!"

I rushed to the kitchen window to see Maddie - the 18 month old puddy cat from downstairs (who spends most of her time upstairs with us)  - balancing at the top of a very thin branch of what isn't much more than an overgrown shrub in our garden!  What had enticed this naturally inquistive little madam? Yes, you've guessed it, the sight of two doves billing and cooing in the tree about a foot further up.

They weren't worried - its almost as though you could see what they were thinking (something along the lines of "stupid cat, do you REALLY think we cannot see, and that you're going to get anywhere near us???!!).... in fact they carried on regardless.

Maddie meanwhile continued to sway in the high wind on a very very thin branch.  Clearly she wasn't at all sure of her footing, because she suddenly decided to give up the effort, turn around and return to terre firma.  Not as easy as she might think though,  as she descended the whole branch swayed backwards and forwards at an alarming rate.... she got so far down and then clearly didn't know where to put her next foot forward - the wind blew quite violently at that point and, yes, she lost grip - summersaulted and was completely upside down spinning down towards the earth.  Did she land with a bump!?  Well, NO, thankfully her instinct to put out her legs and claws and grab at what she could paid off......she hung by her front legs claws inserted in the tree branch and clearly trying to maintain her cool.

Well, of course we will never mention it to her - but the laugh she gave us was from the belly up.

These cats are so amusing - how about yours?
