Today is Budget Day 2009 in the UKThere is no doubt in my mind that Alastair Darling and his treasury team have a difficult job on their hands - and I'll leave the apportionment of "blame" for this to others better qualified than I to comment.
However, I hope that we (the long suffering British public) get some good news as a result and a positive vibe for the country so that we can start to feel the buds of recovery are peeking their heads up to the sun!
I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and she was reading in The Times at the weekend that the "do it yourself" and "handmade" revolution is in full swing as a result of the current downturn and that making something yourself will not only be cheaper in the long run, give you something less "mass market" and beautiful for yourself or your home but also give you a real sense of pride in your own achievements. Something I've long believed in.
Whatever the result of the Budget message today, I hope that we have all learned from the mistakes of the recent financial past and value more highly the simpler things in life.
